Residential Walkway

At MVR Landscaping, we specialize in the construction of residential walkways, focusing on best practices for durability and drainage.

For a walkway to be built correctly, it typically requires two slopes: one directed away from the house, and a second slope directed toward either the front or back of the property, depending on the site’s drainage needs and city regulations. If the initial grade is incorrect, the walkway cannot drain properly to the front, which often leads to contractors incorrectly sloping the walkway toward a neighbor’s property—a practice that is both against code and increases the risk of flooding.

To ensure a firm, stable, and compacted base, we excavate a minimum of 12 inches (1 foot) before installing any pavers. While most manufacturers recommend a 6-inch excavation, our experience shows that this is often insufficient to ensure a proper base over the long term (five years or more). We use only the highest quality aggregate and never use repurposed gravel, as consistency can vary.

We frequently use the following popular walkway stones: Blu 60 from Techo-Bloc, Ridgefield Plus from Oaks, Beacon Hill 6cm from Unilock, and Mondrian 60 from Permacon.
